Kat Fowler is an international leading yoga teacher based in New York City, an E-RYT 500, a Yoga Alliance Continued Education Provider, a yoga educator and mentor with over 1500 hours of training. Kat is known for her lighthearted and inspirational style of teaching that encourages personal expression and inner connection through movement. Kat uses her passion for the yoga practice, love for anatomy and biomechanics, and lifelong surrounding of spirituality to inspire her students to achieve their highest potential through the path of the yoga practice. Kat was born into a life of spirituality and meditation; her Aruban mother, an international professional modern dancer from the Julliard School in NYC and American father, met in an ashram on their spiritual path. Since birth, Kat was raised as a vegetarian and was connected to yoga philosophy, eastern spirituality, meditation and holistic health. She learned and studied meditation through her family's guru at age fourteen; while attending college, she specialized in year-long courses of Yoga Philosophy, Hindu Philosophy, the Bhagavad Gita, Buddhist Studies, and Eastern Religions under Senior Professor Dr. Edwin Bryant; and later traveled to India to study meditation in depth at her family's ashram at age twenty-two. She simultaneously has taken over fifteen yoga teacher trainings specializing in the eastern classical elements of yoga to the western anatomical and therapeutic side of yoga. Outside of her classical yoga training, Kat has formal trainings and informal study in cognitive and behavioral psychology, philosophy (of mind and eastern religions,) ayurveda, chinese medicine, holistic nutrition including homeopathic remedies, aromatherapy, crystal healing therapy and energy healing. Integrating her upbringing of spirituality, years of a personal practice, dedicated study, and decade of teaching experience, Kat's classes and teaching offerings in New York City are knowledgable, educational and spiritually grounding for students of all levels. Kat's teaching methodology is rooted in the true knowledge of the practice that comes from a lifetime of personal experience.
Kat leads several of her own 100 hour advanced teacher training programs, specialized workshops, open group classes and private sessions in her hometown, New York City, as well as teaches at conferences and festivals internationally. Kat has trained, mentored and taught numerous teachers at Yoga Vida and Pure Yoga in NYC and guest teaches/lectures at several 200 hour teacher training programs across the New York regional area. Kat has been featured on news interviews with ABC News NY, on NYC Taxi TV, as well as interviewed for the New York Times Health Page. Kat annually teaches thousands of New Yorkers at a time at Bryant Park Yoga through Yoga Journal, has instructed at the NY Times Travel Show, and has been on faculty at the Yoga Journal Conference in NYC as well. As a dual-citizen (American and Aruban/Dutch,) Kat has partnered with the Aruba Tourism Authority, leading press events and yoga programs remotely in NYC and on-site in Aruba at multiple hotels for Aruba’s Wellness Month. Kat has also worked with the anatomically-based international yoga school, Yoga Medicine, as a senior teacher and mentored at their teacher training programs. Kat has been featured in various video and print ads for Shape Magazine, Lululemon, Runners World, Amazon, Reebok Women, Athleta, Natural Health Magazine, Manhattan Magazine and NY Yoga + Life Magazine, as well as featured on the cover of Om Yoga Magazine and Natural Awakenings Magazine. Kat was previously a brand ambassador for Lululemon Athletica for three consecutive years, and is now proudly sponsored by Reebok, TBNY, Manduka, Health Warrior, Nature's Truth and Bogavia Beauty, as well as KiraGrace for her third consecutive year.
